2.1 Choose Web Hosting & Register a Domain

  • Your progress:

Update 2021-09-20: SiteGround has lowered their prices. The StartUp account is now just $3.99/mo (73% off).

In this chapter we’ll explore different WordPress web hosting options and you’ll get a 73% discount at the leading web host SiteGround. This we hosting works very well together with the Divi theme. We’ll also register a domain for your website.

The initial step in our journey is to secure a domain and set up a web hosting account. The domain serves as your website’s address, which can come in various extensions like .com, .net, or .org, among others. Web hosting, on the other hand, is the digital home for your website. It’s where you install WordPress and store all your website content.

For your hosting needs, I highly recommend SiteGround, a reputable industry leader since 2004. They host over 2 million domains and come highly recommended by prominent players in the field, including WordPress itself. By utilizing my affiliate link,  you can enjoy an impressive up to 73% discount on their services, and as a bonus, I’ll receive a small commission. It’s a win-win situation.

Now, let’s delve into the different hosting account options:

  1. Startup Plan: This basic plan comes at a special price of €3.99 per month or $4.99 per month. It allows you to host one website and comes with certain limitations regarding web space and visitor traffic. You get one-click WordPress installation, free SSL, daily backups, CDN, and email. This is a great choice for those with small, simple websites and minimal traffic.
  2. Grow Big Plan: The best-selling “Grow Big” plan is available at a special price of €6.99 per month or $7.99 per month. With this plan, you can host unlimited websites, enjoy more web space, and have on-demand backup copies in addition to daily backups. It also offers ultra-fast PHP, staging for website testing, and the ability to add more users to your hosting account. This plan suits a broader range of website sizes and complexities.
  3. Go Geek Plan: The “Go Geek” plan is the largest offering at a special price of €13.99 per month or $14.99 per month. It allows unlimited websites like “Grow Big” but offers twice the web space and can handle up to one hundred thousand monthly visitors. It also includes some advanced technical features. This plan is ideal for extensive international websites or large e-commerce stores.

For your project, the Startup Plan seems to be the right choice, especially if you’re building a demo website with low traffic. In this step, we’ll also select a domain. While there are various top-level domains available, the .com domain is the most common. However, options like .eu, .net, .org, .nl, and even fun ones like .coffee and .club are available. I’ll choose the widely recognized .com domain for this demonstration.

If you already have a domain registered elsewhere, you can simply connect it to SiteGround. However, if you wish to register a new domain, you can enter your desired domain name, such as tvcrib.com, and proceed. After filling in your information and payment details, you can select your plan period. For the best deal, choose the 12-month option at €3.99 per month.

Regarding extra services, you have the option to add domain privacy (€11.70 per year) to protect your personal data from online scans, and the SG Site Scanner, a tool that checks for site issues or hacking. You can uncheck these options if you don’t need them. The total cost will be displayed, and you can confirm your agreement to the terms of service and make the payment.

After a few minutes, you’ll receive welcome emails with login information and instructions to verify your domain. Follow these steps, and you’ll be ready for the next stage, which involves installing WordPress.
