6.9c Add Google reCAPTCHA v3 Spam Protection to a Divi Form
- Your progress:
We’re implementing Google reCAPTCHA version 3 to safeguard our Divi contact form from spam. The great thing about this is that it’s both free and invisible, eliminating the need for your users to solve puzzles or identify objects like cars in images. It’s a user-friendly and effective solution for combatting spam.
Here’s how to set it up:
1. Access the Contact Form settings by clicking the cogwheel.
2. Scroll down to the “Spam Protection” section under the Content tab.
3. Disable the basic captcha, as it’s less effective and can be annoying for visitors.
4. Enable the spam protection service by selecting “Yes.”
5. Choose reCAPTCHA as the service provider.
6. Click “Add” to set up a reCAPTCHA version 3 account.
7. Assign a name for your account (for internal use), such as “Divi Crib.”
8. Now, you’ll need both a “Site Key” and a “Secret Key” for reCAPTCHA version 3, which you can obtain from the Google reCAPTCHA console.
9. Open a new tab and navigate to the Google reCAPTCHA console using the link provided below the video.
10. In the reCAPTCHA admin console, ensure you’re logged into your Google account.
11. Create a label for your internal reference, usually your domain, and select reCAPTCHA type “reCAPTCHA v3.”
12. Enter your domain name, and if you intend to use it on additional domains, you can add them by clicking the plus sign.
13. Accept the reCAPTCHA terms of service and opt to receive alerts about increased spam traffic.
14. Copy the “Site Key” from the reCAPTCHA console and paste it into your Divi settings.
15. Copy the “Secret Key” from the reCAPTCHA console and paste it into your Divi settings.
16. Click “Submit” in the reCAPTCHA console.
17. Return to your Divi settings and choose your newly created Divi Crib reCAPTCHA account.
18. Determine a minimum score; this influences the strictness of spam prevention. A score between 0.7 and 0.8 is generally effective. Experiment to find the right balance.
19. Save your changes by clicking the green button.
20. Save your edits.
21. When you exit the visual builder, you’ll notice a Google reCAPTCHA badge in the lower right corner. This indicates that your keys and domain are properly configured, and your forms are now protected from spam.
By following these steps, you’ve effectively set up reCAPTCHA version 3 to secure your Divi contact forms against spam.
